Meadow Queen

Meadow Queen

This Valley Oak is so old that it has seen things we can't even imagine. We are grateful every day that it escaped the logger's saw of bygone days. Valley Oak was not prized because the wood is softer than that of other oaks, and was even dubbed Mush Oak. Nonetheless, the largest known Valley Oak in California, with a diameter of nearly nine feet, was cut down for firewood. Our hope is that this tree outlives us. Quercus lobata

  • Such a graceful old tree. Love how you've framed it with the flowers in the foreground.

  • really nice how it feels like the flowers are leaning in to that wonderful oak.

  • Oaks have so much more character than most trees. When I see big old ones, they just seem to murmur age and wisdom. Think about this tree's life, maybe it was a baby around the time of WWI. They just grow a bit each year, they survive (almost) everything man and nature throw at them. "If these branches could talk...."
