The Douglas Fir sends out its new growth each spring like clockwork. Any plant containing the name Douglas is named after Scottish botanical explorer David Douglas, who took North American natives back to England. He died collecting plants on the slopes of Mauna Kea in Hawaii. Pseudotsuga menziesii
