The favorite food of the band-tail pigeon is acorns, but in the spring they sit high in the tops of valley oaks and seem to nibble on the flowers and new growth. This one took a break on a lower branch, a rare sight. Band-tails were nearly hunted to extinction at one point, but now its numbers have increased throughout the United States. Columba fasciata

  • I love the different greens and browns--so very calming. I feel that I could reach out and touch the dove.

  • The light works particularly well in this photo--it all comes in from the right and makes the leaves shimmer.

  • This has to be the most beautiful 'pigeon' I've ever seen. Wonderful image!
