Moment of Repose
The favorite food of the band-tail pigeon is acorns, but in the spring they sit high in the tops of valley oaks and seem to nibble on the flowers and new growth. This one took a break on a lower branch, a rare sight. Band-tails were nearly hunted to extinction at one point, but now its numbers have increased throughout the United States.
