The California Beaked Hazelnut has small hazelnuts in its pointed beak apparently. I haven't seem or eaten them yet. Maybe our plants are too young, but in the meantime, the dangling catkins give much pleasure. The hazelnut had many uses for Native Americans too. Corylus cornuta var. californica
