I think this is a Lesser Goldfinch, an adult male in full breeding plumage. I don't think it knows it's been named Lesser. It has a mighty presence for a small bird. It's a common bird this time of the year in this region, and prefers more open trees often around houses, to the dense forest. Carduelis psaltria
