The Good Berry

The Good Berry

I was hoping this berry was a native because it's lovely and not as invasive as the every day blackberry. It has lacy leaves and is a delicate presence compared to the heavy-leaved and invasive Himalayan Berry. But it's not native. Cut-leaf Blackberry was introduced from somewhere else long ago and has naturalized in wetland areas throughout the United States. Rubus laciniatus

  • Yum, yum--photo makes me think of all the crisps, cobblers, grunt, slumps and pies Americans have been making from berries (native and non-native) for centuries. This shot shows how ripe, red and green berries appear on the same bush, requiring delicate picking.

  • Delicious shot...
Around here, the berries closest to the ocean, and cooler, are just ripening up...
