Daddy Sang Bass

Daddy Sang Bass

The American Bullfrog likes quiet water with vegetation around the edges. They are wary by day, making this close-up unusual, but at night, they make their presence known by performing in chorus. They eat anything they can swallow, even mammals or birds. Bullfrogs locate prey by vision, then catch it with their large sticky tongue. They are native to the east and midwest, were introduced as food due to their large legs, and are now common in most of California. Rana catesbeiana

  • Oh, no! Michi escaped and ran away to California! In trying to identify Michi and Ren, I could only guess at what type of frogs they were because none of the online photos I've seen really even came close to being helpful. But THIS is awesome! I suspected they might be bullfrogs, but this shot makes me think that's what they are even more. Of course, the description helps too...our frogs are definitely nocturnal.

  • I can practically smell the earthy aroma of the water and the greenery, not to mention hearing the "ribet, ribet" of the froggies.

  • I knew Kathe would love this. Glad it helped her ID Ren and Michi. Wonderful image, clarity. Perfect DOF.

  • What a friendly face to greet me...
Love your photos -- Mindy Pines sent me over...
You live in an exceptionally beautiful place with a great deal of variety -- so glad I found you.
