Moist Dusk

Moist Dusk

Western Brackenfern is another really old plant, maybe 55 million years old. It spreads by underground rhizomes and releases certain chemicals, which helps it dominate other vegetation. It is deciduous, so every spring lush new triangular fronds appear amidst last year's brown, dried up stalks. It's not very dense here...but the fiddleheads are delicious. Pteridium aquilinum

  • Why haven't we eaten ferns together? This picture is so good, I can almost smell it.
