Cat and Mouse Game

Cat and Mouse Game

This is not the first time I've been on my knees and elbows with the macro lens when a cat nose entered the frame. You can imagine which one survived here. The menu item is a mouse, either the California Mouse or the Deer Mouse. The Deer Mouse is the most abundant mouse in the United States; the California has a more limited range but is here. It's surprisingly hard to accurately identify a little mouse, especially with little time for the task. Peromyscus californicus

  • Fantastic capture!! Amazing how you managed to capture this little guy with such clarity!

  • The subject looks like it was already mortally wounded - its eyes are covered with dirt, which means it doesn't have even a blink response anymore. Cats are really efficient predators... good for keeping unwanted visitors out of a house - maybe not so good for the neighborhood wildlife if they are let outside...)

    Nevertheless, very cool photo!
