Before Sunrise

This is not a black-and-white photo, believe it or not. It is full color, before the sun rose, on the morning of a Sierra snowstorm. After the sun rises, it's a different landscape, with dappled light coming through the forest trees and snow melting so fast you need an umbrella under the trees. This is the tranquil, blissful moment before the transition begins.

  • The water's reflection of the trees shows the slightest tinge of green, the only way to know that the shot is a color one. So silent and still, a complete contrast to the howling storm picture.
