The Southern Alligator Lizard is one of the most common lizards in California, but we usually see them on the ground, not suspended high in the air like as this one was, clinging to the tall grass. It was about 11 inches long, a big part of that being its tail. The pink background from the dried summer grasses and morning sunlight was a pleasant surprise. Elgaria multicarinata
