Eyes for You

Eyes for You

Digging in moist soil or lifting rocks, I often unearth a little salamander, the Yellow-Eyed Ensatina. They can get defensive when disturbed apparently, and even secrete a noxious white fluid from their tail to repel predators, but I haven't seen that yet. The ones I've met are docile and timid. Ensatina eschscholtzii xanthoptica

  • They're kinda cute, aren't they? I haven't seen any salamanders since I was a kid. But those were rather boring compared to this li'l fella - just all black.
